Sandy's Bar, St Andrews
From £5.00
In a clearing stories are stirring. The wind whistles through the pines, bringing with it a burst of song, a half remembered fiddle tune. Caught between the Scottish hills and the mountains of Appalachia, Abi and Ailsa weave transatlantic tunes, tales and songs into an exploration of what it means.
About Ailsa:
Ailsa Dixon is a traditional storyteller, musician and folklorist deeply rooted in place, passionate about sharing traditional tales and unheard histories. She specialises in Scottish stories, particularly those from Aberdeenshire and Orkney particularly interested in narratives with feminist and environmentalist themes, as well as international myths, legends and wonder tales.
About Abi:
Abi Sandy grew up surrounded by folk music in Vermont, but she found her way to playing after spending most of her musical upbringing in piano and choir. Since entering the world of DADGAD guitar in 2019, she has traveled across Canada, the UK, and Ireland in search of songs, tunes and the people behind them.
The University of St Andrews Folk Festival is an annual folk festival hosted by the University of St Andrews Folk and Traditional Music Society. The event features a diverse lineup, including live performances from acclaimed folk artists, ceilidh dancing, workshops on traditional instruments, and many local sessions across the weekend. The festival draws a vibrant community of students, locals, and visiting artists from across the UK and beyond.
